Whippet Good - 7 December 2019

08 Dec 2019 1 1 125
Whippet Good is an installation by Delve Architects, curated by Futurecity for Almacantar and is one of two works to occupy St Giles Square, a new public space, part of the wider Centre Point (area) development. It is (not very obviously in my opinion) a bench but I enjoyed it as simply a large piece. It is very attractive in real life. Whippet Good and another work, 'City Blocks' were originally commissioned for the London Festival of Architecture 2019. TZ70_P1010519

In Memoriam - 16 June 2019

17 Jun 2019 142
This bench is on a small piece of land in Redlynch at the confluence of Bowers Hill and Kiln Lane at the junction of the former with the B3080. The land also has a war memorial. The plaque on the bench reads "This Bench is dedicated to the Memory to those Men of this Community who gave their lives In the Great War 1914-18 11 November 2018" A number of such memorials appeared around Britain in the centenary year of the ending of World War One. Creature Comforts (1) - 8 April 2015

10 Apr 2015 153
This bench in Lands Lane, Leeds caught my eye because of its armrests fashioned in the style of little animals. One on either side might be a dog, the others who knows? Perhaps we are not meant to know and they are just fantasy creatures. 200_2_P1040332

181 Hayarkon Street (bench) - 23 May 2014

24 May 2014 188
The title of this picture might be a little misleading. This distinctive bench is, in fact, on Rehov Eliezer Peri, a busy road which briefly diverges from Hayarkon Street which itself, for a short stretch, is narrow and residential. The bench, reflects the Guadiesque influences of the property opposite (previous two pictures) the rear of which is on Eliezer Peri and can be contemplated from the bench. 200_P1030300

Sights of Tel Aviv (4) - 15 May 2014

Stop The Moment For one theme within my 'Israel Vacation 2014' album, I have concentrated on colour. The centre of Tel Aviv is brightened by numerous decorated benches such as this on Sderot Rothschild. 200_P1020788

Images of Hockley Viaduct (11) - 14 January 2014

15 Jan 2014 177
Hockley Viaduct (originally Shawford Viaduct) was built by the LSWR to connect the tracks of the Didcot, Newbury & Southampton Railway (DN&SR) to its own. As the name suggests, the latter had intended to run to Southampton but, in fact, got no further than the erstwhile terminus at Winchester Cheesehill (later Chesil) which will be documented later in this photostream. Cheesehill became a through station in 1891. The viaduct was restored in 2012/13 and is now part of National Cycle Route 23. For me, it is an important part of railway history and, for those with no such interest, it forms part of a beautiful walk or ride with enticing views of the Itchen and its meadows. The pathway of the viaduct is marked with dandelion clock motifs which are replicated on this attractive, inscribed bench in an alcove along the way. 200_P1000234

A Place To Be Alone (2) - 14 July 2013

16 Jul 2013 224
In every city, there is a place to be alone. This is one, in Southampton, an extreme crop from one of my rhino pictures highlighting a solitary and unoccupied bench. X20_DSCF1620XC
