Pre-Preparation Closeup

27 Oct 2025 10 4 48
We were "gifted" some home-raised pumpins. They will become pie, in due time. Taken with my (recent) purchased macro lens on the Panasonic GX85 (GX80) micro 4/3. Processed with GIMP. Enjoy viewing on a black background.

Orange Machinery

11 Aug 2025 2 2 132
Taken in the station for the Table Mountain cable car, Capetown. Not sure of the actual use of this item, but I liked the angles and of course the color. Image processed with GIMP.

Switching Rail Cars (HFF)

17 Jul 2025 15 13 250
Taken at the Belen, New Mexico, railway yards. This yard worker is riding on the last car of a set that will be switched and re-connected as necessary. Image processed with GIMP.

Delicate Arch at Sunrise

19 Dec 2024 26 12 699
We did not hike up to Delicate Arch; the folks you see in the photo, did. We were at the viewpoint far down in the valley. Used the maximum telephoto with my Panasonic GX85. The rising sun has just touched 2/3's of the Arch. Some of the photographers on the mountain still have their tripods set up. Each moment was a different view, as the sun lit various parts of the scene. Image processed with GIMP. Oh yes, 600mm equivalent Panasonic zoom telephoto. There was a very nice log railing all around the viewpoint area, which I used as a "tripod".

Shave Ice (H.A.N.W.E., HTT)

06 Aug 2024 5 5 372
The "back yard" of the food zone of the local Fair. Normally, you are looking at the front of the food truck/trailer/kiosk, checking the prices, decided on your purchase. This is the back, where all of the preparation and setup goes on. Not nearly as gaudy and bright. At night, you probably don't see the back at all, just the bright lights. (In case you are intrigued, "shave ice" is a Hawaiian invention. The "snocone" is more well known: a scoop of crushed ice with flavored sirup on top. The variant from the Islands has taken over the US. The smaller bottles you see on the tables contain the sirups.) Image processed with GIMP.

Loading Wood Chips, Albany, Australia

27 Jun 2024 2 333
Our cruise stopped in Albany, a port we had visited before. This is a very interesting part of Australia. The harbor was dominated by huge piles of logs and wood chips. The chips, of course, are made into particle board. The chips are being loaded into a bulk carrier for export. The worker in the image should give you an idea of the size of the ship, the Luisia Colossus . Image processed with GIMP.

Mopar Racing (H.A.N.W.E.)

14 Feb 2024 9 1 360
While visiting family in New Jersey in November 2022, we were invited to a local car show. Well, the photo opportunities are boundless. In this case, I noticed the vibrant paint job on this Chrysler-brand vehicle. "Mopar" is the brand name for the parts used in this line of cars during the glory days of the "muscle car". Notice all the stickers with government-required information. Those didn't exist in the so-called glory days.

Tender on Our Ship

08 Dec 2023 10 1 271
We were at Santarem, Brazil, and used the tenders to get ashore. Image processed with GIMP.

Oranges (H.A.N.W.E.)

20 Jul 2023 8 2 291
The fruit, not necessarily the color. Taken in the market, Manaus, Brazil. Most of the fruit is green, but the inside is the real stuff. Hope your weekend is sweet!

Wreck

20 Jul 2023 35 14 706
This shipwreck remains as a silent warning to watch where you are going. This was taken in the Chilean Fjords. The crew took a wrong turn, and that was that. This location is so isolated, that it would cost too much to salvage the wreck. Time has turned it into a hulk of rust. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Riverside_(APA-102) Image processed with GIMP.

Orange Wheels (HFF, H.A.N.W.E.)

20 Jul 2023 15 11 465
Seen on a farm (estancia) we visited in Tierra del Fuego.

Air Fryer Chicken (H.A.N.W.E.)

01 Jun 2023 9 6 535
A fellow RV'er was trying to convince us to buy a stand-alone air fryer. So, he cooked some chicken (see photo) and it WAS DELICIOUS! So, we bought one. It works well, but we now have a gas stove with an "air fryer" option that works well too. The color comes from our friend's "secret" spice combination. Enjoyed this chicken in Quartzsite, Airzona, during the winter show season. Image taken with the phone and processed with GIMP.

Orange Flower (Lens Test)

04 May 2023 23 7 477
Happy Orange Thursday! Also May the 4th, for some folks. Got a Macro lens for the Panasonic GX85, Micro 4/3 camera body. It is an Olympus lens, but works fine on the Pana body. Tested the lens extensively, particularly trying macro/closeups. Image processed with GIMP.

Autumn Orange (Orange Thursdays)

23 Feb 2023 33 10 660
A lovely range of colors in the trees, from yellow to orange, to a little bit of red. Taken in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North) during our 2022 road trip. The Panasonic GX85 does a nice job. No manipulation done.

Orange Berries (H.A.N.W.E.)

02 Feb 2023 28 9 516
We enjoyed a pleasant walk in the wood around Priest Lake, Idaho. The location is quite scenic. I saw these berries on a plant (probably common) in the forest. Finally got the selective focus to work right. Image processed with GIMP.

Paddle Wheel

26 Jan 2023 16 2 678
Paddle wheel on the steamboat Nenana , at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, Alaska. Now she is preserved and sitting on dry land. Image processed with GIMP. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nenana_(steamer)

Orange Building

12 Jan 2023 18 4 580
We could see much of "downtown" Sydney from our apartment balcony. It being close to Christmas, they were illuminating several buildings close by (TownHall area). This particular one changed color every 30 seconds or so. Every once in a while, it was orange. This was a test of my new (2016) Panasonic GX85. I set it at ISO 25,600, which accounts for the obvious noise you will see in the photo. However, after a little work in GIMP, I was able to make it square format, and improve the details a little. Overall, I'm amazed by the low-light capability of this camera.

Carpark Sign (Orange Thursdays)

07 Apr 2022 6 2 606
This naturally-rusted sign was for a carpark where we stopped on our tour of Christchurch, New Zealand. This very scenic area is south of Christchurch on Summit Road. Image processed with GIMP
