Fence by the river - HFF!
| 26 Nov 2021 |

This bit of green fence blocks people from venturing onto an old milldam that is no longer stable. I liked the incongruity of a fence in the middle of nowhere and the fall vegetation on the river bank.
HFF and have a nice weekend, everyone!

I don't know if she was waiting for somebody, taking a moment to reflect on life or simply enjoying the view from the bridge parapet, but her "Red Riding Hood" called my attention.

HFF everybody, and have a great weekend, with all kinds of nice photogenic light!
missing bench - HBM!

There is no public bench on this stretch of the Argingrosso riverside park, but, clearly, someone thinks there SHOULD be one!
Happy Bench Monday and have a colorful week, everyone!

A perfunctory fence at the Anconella Park as you look towards the right bank of the Arno River at the river front façade of Hotel Ville sull'Arno.
Too darn hot to do much fence hunting these days, so this is from my spring archives. (does better on black, I think)
HFF and hope your weekend is not as sweltering as ours promises to be!

One of the ramps that lead to Florence's satellite villages from the path on the right bank of the Arno River.
In the PIP: at the top of the ramp looking across the river to one of the villages on the left bank.
Wishing everyone a sunny, pleasant HFF!
Most of all, sending out to Andy Rodker light-filled thoughts and positive feelings to help him fight off the infection that is wearing him down.
Casa sulla pescaia - House on the Milldam

This is as far as I can go upstream on the Arno bank trail. I instantly fell in love with this house that incorporated parts of one of the old mills that dot the course of the river.
In the PIPS another couple of takes on the same subject.
It didn't show signs of very recent habitation (despite the air-conditioning unit, the plant pots on the terrace were uncared for and it looked like it had been a while since the little path leading to the entrance was much used). I guess I can see why: it can be reached only by an unpaved road along the banks that must get pretty muddy and possibly even impassable in case of flooding and it must be a rather humid and even scary spot when the river swells.
And yet, it was just lovely on this spring afternoon, with just me and a lady walking her dog along the bank trail. My imagination went into overdrive trying to guess who might have lived here, how they came by the property of the old mill, whether they still use the house from time to time and what the sunset on the river valley must look like from that terrace on a summer evening with a nice glass of prosecco by your side ... As my Grandma used to say, "Dreaming is free of charge"! :D
coming home (PIP)

This is the time of year when biking home along the Arno River puts me right in the middle of a light show. On one side, the sun goes down bathing the Arno River in sunset colors as it flows downstream (see PIP), while upstream the city turns to gold in the last light. It makes for a moment when I can forget these scary times for a bit. I hope it does the same for you.
on fire

At first I was thrilled by this fiery sunset that gave the impression of setting the trees of the Anconella riverside park on fire, but once I had the image up on my computer screen, I could not help but think about the wild fires in the West Coast of the US and the bush fires in Australia last year. Sending my thoughts out to all the victims (human and animal) who are paying for what we have all been doing to Nature.

a glimpse of the sunlit buildings across the Arno river, taken from the pleasant shade under the trees of the riverside garden in Piazza Poggi (where I also enjoyed a tasty panino from the Easy Living Kiosk).
The tower of the Palazzo della Signoria looks closer than it is in reality from this perspective. On the right hand side, part of the brownstone building of the Biblioteca Nazionale.

Le Cascine park reflected - PIP

Struck by the golden evening light the trees at Le Cascine Park create wavy reflections in the river as the water is gently ruffled by a light breeze. In the PIP, a close up of the reflections.
