Another look at one of the features of this garden and deer park at Dunham Massey not far from Manchester Airport. This stable block and clock tower is grade 1 listed This was taken on our first trip to this medieval park here but we have consequently done two more visits.
The first Pip shows Dunham Massey Hall. (Preceding photo). The second PiP shows one of the many wooded paths here in Autumn.

The great hall at Dunham Massey.
Here we see it still closed for the winter months. Originally built in the 17th century and later remodelled in the 18th century, it was used as the Stamford Military Hospital during World War I.
The PiP shows an inside view.

Another flooded field (no river), this time on the boundary of Dunham Massey. With the amount of rain this winter it looks like fields like this might never dry out again. The birds seem to like it though. Black headed gulls mainly but we saw some Egyptian Geese too. PiP

HBM ~ A seat by the snowdrops

A rare few hours of blue sky and sunshine brings us back to Dunham Massey to see the first snowdrops of the year. The good weather, albeit being cold, brings out many visitors here all clamouring for a bit of natures colour before the promised snows and rains returned just hours later.
See PiP for closer view of flowers.
Have a perfect day.

We are back in Dunham Massey to catch the autumn golds as we pass this grand old building surrounded by soft greens and yellowing leaves. See PiP for my earlier version.
The building itself is considered to be around 400 years old and originally functioned as a corn mill.

A view of well designed flower bells with a fine autumnal background was seen in the internal courtyard of Dunham Massey house. The right flavour for this time of year.
Enjoy the day.

An autumn walk in this wonderful park allows us to spot some illusive deer. We were quite lucky to see these as lots of the deer park was closed to visitors as it was rutting season. See last photo for the stag!

A walk through the park

Walking through the deer-park of Dunham Massey is always a good experience. The deer at this time of year are mainly in an isolated (from the public) part but they are free to roam around here too if they wish. The golden hues of autumn are well and truly with us now and in no time at all the trees will be bare.

As we get a rare day of clearer skies we also get to see the onset of Autumn here at the country park. The Canada geese make for a moving foreground to the golds of the trees in the background.

A walk around the old stable block reveals this storage space which not only houses an old horse- drawn cart but these strange wheeled scaffolding devices. It looks like the central laddered tower may be lifted much higher, gaining access to high parts of the internal rooms of the house?
Have a good weekend.

It’s a cold day here at Dunham Massey but the benches still have picnickers with their hot drinks resting here and its never too cold to play. Normally, I presume you could take a seat inside where I am sure the temperatures are far higher but...closed today! Taken on our county park walkabout
HBM, enjoy the week.

Part of the herd of Fallow deer that inhabit this splendid country park here in Greater Manchester. These are of course does. There were many more with the main herd not very far away being shepherded by the mighty stags. See PiPs.

Coot

Seen in Dunham Massey. Always nice to see such water fowl.
"The Eurasian Coot is all-black and larger than its cousin, the Moorhen. It has a distinctive white beak and 'shield' above the beak which earns it the title 'bald'. Its feet have lobed flaps of skin on the toes which act in the same way as webbed feet when swimming. It patters noisily over the water before taking off and can be very aggressive towards others." www.rspb.org.uk
