Galleria degli specchi

17 Oct 2022 2 2 173
---------------------------------------------------------------- One of the most striking rooms in the palace is the Gallery of Mirrors, resplendent in the light reflected by its many mirrors and the beauty of its stuccoes and paintings by Le Brun. The great Gallery expresses in its wealth the political, economic and artistic success of France. It was used daily as a place of passage, waiting and meeting and was frequented by courtiers and visitors. Despite its splendour, the Mirror Gallery was only exceptionally the backdrop for ceremonies, when diplomatic receptions or royal wedding parties were to be lavished with the greatest pomp. On such occasions, the throne was placed on a podium at the end of the gallery. It was here, moreover, that the Treaty of Versailles ending World War I was signed on 28 June 1919, and the Presidents of the French Republic have continued to receive France's official guests here ever since.

--------------------------------------------- The Musical Fountains (Grandes Eaux Musicales) are in fact the most 'famous' of Versailles' fountains, gushing to the rhythm of baroque music. This is an evocative walking tour through the gardens of the Palace, where you can admire the gushing of the fountains accompanied by a pleasant baroque musical background. As a legacy of the creative spirit of Versailles, the authors intend to enhance and reinterpret the works of art that have been in the palace gardens over the course of two centuries. The greatest baroque composers, from Lully to Charpentier or Couperin, accompany visitors' strolls with classical music.

-------------------------------------- he large park stretching behind the palace is one of the greatest treasures of Versailles. From the central window of the gallery of mirrors, an enchanting panorama unfolds, stretching as far as the eye can see from the foot of the palace through a long perspective embellished by the work of architect André Le Nôtre: fountains with elegant sculptures, water features, flower beds and canals. Particularly original was the creation of the 1670-metre-long Grand Canal, which served as a backdrop for numerous festivities and even hosted boats. From 1669, in fact, Louis XIV had miniature lifeboats and vessels sailing on the canal, and in 1674, the Serenissima sent two gondolas and four gondoliers to the Sun King, who were housed in the buildings at the head of the Canal, which from then on were called Little Venice. Work on the gardens began at the same time as the construction of the palace and lasted for about forty years; it was a gigantic work that required the labour of thousands of people. Entrata a Versailles

----------------------------------- The Palace of Versailles represents one of the finest masterpieces of 17th century French art. A simple hunting lodge in the time of Louis XIII, it was transformed into a splendid royal palace by the Sun King who moved the court there in 1682 and remained the official seat of power until the French Revolution. Later, the beautiful royal residence was transformed into a museum dedicated to the History of France at the behest of Louis Philippe and a series of works that still bear witness to the great events of French history converge in its rooms. Pont de Normandie

26 Sep 2022 2 162
-------------------------------------------------------------------- .Designed by French structural engineer Michel Virlogeux and architects François Doyelle and Charles Lavigne, construction of the bridge began in 1988 and lasted seven years. The bridge was inaugurated on 20 January 1995 and set a world record when it was completed. When it was opened to the public, it was in fact the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world and also had a record distance between pylons for a cable-stayed bridge. It was more than 250 metres longer between the piers than the previous record. The Normandy Bridge remains the bridge with the longest span in France. Connecting Seine-Maritime to Calvados and Le Havre to Honfleur, the bridge is 215 metres high and 2141 metres long. Built of concrete and metal, the imposing structure has four lanes of motor traffic, two pedestrian lanes and two bicycle lanes. Thanks to its height, it does not obstruct the navigation of boats going up and down the Seine. The bridge's two gigantic pylons, in the shape of an inverted Y, resemble two giants rooted in the ground on each side of the river. The long cables look like thin ropes in the distance, and the thin bridge is curved like a ship's sail. It was even designed like an aircraft to withstand winds of over 300 km/h! Falesie a Étretat- Porte d'Aval

------------------------------------ The monumental St Catherine's Church, the largest wooden church in France, is said to have been built centuries ago by shipwrights to replace a stone one destroyed during the Hundred Years' War. With its grandiose presence, it testifies to the ingenuity, craftsmanship and creativity of Honfleur. As the only material available in the 15th century was wood from the forest of Touques, the carpenters called on all their naval skills to carve a religious building from a different raw material. The fruit of their efforts immediately became one of the symbols of Honfleur. Translated with www.deepl.com/Translator (free version)

Carrozzella

------------------------------- This small seaside town invites you to discover its picturesque streets and ancient façades. ------------------------------------------------ The old port of Honfleur, or Vieux Bassin, is one of the ideal settings for taking selfies that will make all your followers envious.
