Assuming it wasn't made by you Isabel I don't think it's anything to do with ants I think it's on a beach at low tide something that closes the hole when the tide comes in

Isabel* I would say it's sand bees (Andrena) - they also called earth bees - because they pile sand into mounds. I saw them lying in and out. Sometimes they pushed small balls of sand outside.
There were several hills in the immediate vicinity.
