It is a mindless fashion, or a fashion for mindless people. We can make one from time to time for a special reason to send to someone special, but not all the time everywhere. A study about this selfie need behaviour concluded that it is because if you don't share what you do or where you are instantly on social media it is not validated, it has no value.
Many selfir fans I noticed they don't even look at the place where they are, but just at how it looks as backgroung for a selfie...
