Victoria and Tasmania, amazing states in Australia

The passed years one of my most amazing journeys was a tour through Australians states Victoria and Tasmania.
I was asked why I didn't posted my captures yet by Ipernity? I did the trip in February 2006 - long time already passed.
My time working on my albums by Ipernity is limited and so many other albums I couldn't start, but this set I will not detain:
I like to start now with the breathtaking…  (read more)

Black River Picnic Area

This basic picnic area is situated on the banks of the peaceful Black River. It is more a local fishing spot where families come to spend a quiet afternoon and relax under the shade of the forest canopy. Its rest place in the middle of the forest.

Situated 15 minutes southeast of Stanley, Black River is easily accessed through Peggs Creek camping area on the eastern side of the river. Most angling and canoeing is done from there.

The Black River also is a source to fish the crayfish known as fresh water crab in European countries. Just looking into the water we could see as many as being uncountable animals in this waters.

The pier is also a regularly used fishing spot.

Houses in Stanley

Stanley also is a tourist destination and has a cable car to the hill top. At night penguins could cross the road like deers in European countries.

Stanley

In 1825 the English Van Diemen's Land Company was granted land in north-western Tasmania Van Diemen's Land, including the Stanley area. Employees of the company from England settled in the area in October 1826. It was named after Lord Stanley, the British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies in the 1830s and 1840s, who later had three terms of office as British Prime Minister.

View over land to Stanley

One thing surprised me in that area and taught me more about poppies: I've never before in my life seen such giant poppy fields, not in Afghanistan, nor in Iran, Pakistan, Laos, Burma or Thailand! Tasmania is the world's biggest producer of legally grown opium for the pharmaceutical market. About 500 farmers grow the crop on 20,000 hectares of land, producing around half the country’s need for raw opium for morphine and other opiates. Now I easily understand why the Tasmanians don't like the fact that Afghanistan, Pakistan, Laos, Burma or other counties that produce illegal opium compete with Tasmania.

Dip Falls

29 Jan 2006 4 2 583
Ten kilometres east of Stanley is a road heading south to the Dip River Forest reserve. A steep set of steps descends to the bottom of these imposing falls. There were some interesting very short walks in that area. The picture was taken during the dry season, after heavy rain the fall is five times brider. It took a 'bush bash' to the bottom of the gorge on the southern side of the falls.

Looking up to the Eucalyptus tree top

29 Jan 2006 1 432
This was real untouched eucalypt forest, open plains of buttongrass and heathland, magnificent rainforests and mysterious blackwood swamps.

Big Tree

29 Jan 2006 494
The tree is a Browntop stringybark, an kind of Eucalyptus tree. Its difficult to calculate exactly, but the tree would be close to 400 years in age. Its 62 meters tall (the tree on the left side, not the one in front of me - he he!).

Neighbors in Trowutta

28 Jan 2006 339
Starting any conversation got a bit a problem, due the strange slang they spoke and the mentality they have, it reminds me to the US American south states mentality to partiality, racialism and discrimination (!!) Never forget: Western people killed off all est. 10,000 Tasmanian Aborigines in 1812-76 .

Sisters from Ukraine now living in Tasmania

Matthew preparing barbecue

An evening we were organizing a party for all neighbors in Trowutta, inviting them for beer and barbecue. At a lonely place like Trowutta the relationship between the farmers is very closed to each other.
