Greetings from Winnipeg

This is an interesting Stedman card, unrecorded in the Stedman book, although an identical "Series 13" card sporting a Portage & Main image is depicted there. The card is addressed but not stamped. The message reads: "Winnipeg, Man. Will go down to see you as soon as I get home. Hoping you are all well. Best Love, James." The addressee is Miss Ardienne [sic] Rochon, Beauharnois, Que. The image is surprisingly unusual -- taken from atop the Union Station and looking north. You would think that you would see this a lot, given that it is an important stretch of the city's most important street (Main Street), but I don't think I have seen this angle before. Perhaps the management of Union Station weren't accommodating to postcard photographers. Interestingly this seems to be from a sheet of postcards that have been photographed in order to produce smaller versions. At left you can see the edge of a card showing Eaton's.

The Crescent, Gladstone, Man.

A Stedman Bros. card (G. D. C. 4624) showing a fairly unremarkable scene. But the intention is to convey the image of these frontier towns as civilized places with "crescents" on which one could presumably go for a leisurely drive.

Methodist Church, Tisdale

This was actually sent from Brantford, Ont., home of Stedmans, so perhaps they sold random cards locally. This one shows a rather unusual looking Methodist Church at Tisdale, Saskatchewan. The date on the card is December 12, 1907 and it was addressed to Miss Bessie Risk, 1526 3rd Ave., Fairview, Vancouver, British Columbia.

Main Street Looking South, Thessalon, Ont.

Postmarked August 31, 1912 to Miss A. Grindell of Everton, Ont., with an enthusiastic message as follows: "Dear Aunt Annie: I had a fine time in "the Soo. The Corrie's and Campbell's were *very* nice to me. I had a splendid little trip down there to-day. Everyone on the boat was so nice I wanted to stay right on it. I have a boarding-house for the present anyway. I think I shall like the town. Winnie." The card was published by J. A. McLarty of Thessalon with the number J. M. 2649. McLarty's Drug Store is visible on the left side of the street. It looks like this a Stedman card but that is not stated. It is included in Smith's Stedman guide, however, so there can be little doubt that it's by Stedman.
