Posted October 9, 1905 at Chatham, Ontario to Mr. W. J. Lane of Romney, Ontario (with a receiver postmark October 10 from Wheatley, Ontario). The card is interesting because it shows what appear to be three black men as "Chatham's Favorites". Chatham was one of the end points of the Underground Railroad and had (and still has) a sizeable black population by Canadian standards. The image in the centre looks as though it could be of an escaped slave, possibly Josiah Henson (the inspiration for the slave character in "Uncle Tom's Cabin). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josiah_Henson

Russell Lang & Co. card no. 325, presumably a reissue of a Warwick Bros. & Rutter card. Postmarked at Winnipeg May 19, 1905 and addressed to E. F. Wilson, The Dumbarton, So. Pierce Street, Nashua, New Hampshire with the above message. Steele & Co. marking: A60?

Posted at Haileybury July 10, 1906 to Master W. Loughrie, Mattawa, Ont. Early Cobalt card dated July 1905 and with the photographer's mark "Lake & Lewis, Cobalt" on the front.

Winnipeg Tribune, July 24, 1905, p. 12 -- a big find here as we see the Government Agent cards being described. This gives us a rough date for their creation (which is about right given the postmarks on the series, which tend to be late 1905 and into 1906). Posted at the Sault, September 25, 1905 to Miss Pearl Menzies, 130 Jameson Avenue, Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, with the message: "My address is still "Soo" Ontario. Thought perhaps you had forgotten it. Maud." Credit to G. N. Bartlett is hard to see but is in the water at lower right.

A J. H. Clarke card, unused with the ink stamp of D. F. de Tremaudan, Manor, N.W.T., Canada on the reverse. The cancel is "Manor, Assa.", a late use as it is October 1905, a month after the creation of the Province of Saskatchewan.

Mailed in England, postmarked November 14, 1905 with a brief message for Miss E. Challance, 57 High St., Lincoln.

Nice Government Agent card depicting Wawanesa, Manitoba. Postmarked at Meltham (Eng.), November 25, 1905 and sent to Miss C. Johnson, 4 Queen's Road, Jesmond, Newcastle on Tyne.
