Doors, Gates, and Entrances

My wife attests I have “something with doors” –in a positive way. That’s rare enough.

Icking - Alpenblick

We’ve walked these steps many times, when we went to the hotel (in the background) for dinner. The hotel has been sold, last year, and there are no visitors anymore.

Inside the local church –I’ll have to look up the name. I hate to admit it, but I like this one...

Jenhausen

Entrance to the church. It was closed, and we didn’t dare to force our way into it (being discreetly notified –see the note– about the fate of trespassers).

Wessobrunn - Inside the “Römerturm”

The “Römerturm” must be the oldest part of the convent . You can’t get far inside, but even at the door opening the temperature was more agreeable than under the burning sun.

Entrance of Trier Cathedral

On our way back from the Netherlands we stopped for one day at the venerable town of Trier where some expositions celebrated the Roman emperor Constantine the Great. Don’t ask me if they were worthwhile: I wasn’t in them –dogs weren’t allowed.

Mauern/Enghausen

The church of Enghausen was built around 1500 in Gothic style. The community consists of just a few farmer families and, accordingly, the church is quite small. It’s also charming enough, but would certainly attract less visitors if it wouldn’t contain the oldest life-size crucifix hitherto known (ca. 900 AD). This niche is right under the bell tower. The rope may only be pulled by authorized personnel.
