Out West

Western Australia...our largest state...with 12,500km of coastline on the Indian Ocean, 2,500,000 square kilometers of land, and only 2,300,000 inhabitants, this enormous place would be the 10th largest country in the world if it were an independent state. It ranges from cool Mediterranean in the south to dazling tropical reefs and World Heritage marine Parks in the North. Inland is a vast red desert, very hot and dry, up to 50+C in summer. It also has unimaginably vast supplies of resources...natural gas, and iron particularly, which are exported in incredible quantities to China and India.The desert is alive with mining, but it still barely touches this giant land. It also has much gold, nickel and other resources. One can drive for 400km and see no-one and nothing...so one carries water, petrol and food...
We recently drove 10,000 kilometers camping in remoter parts of the north of the state, escaping from the winter at home!
