Across Perth
Looking across Perth from Kings Park.
With another Friday here, I'll use this to wish everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a good weekend.
Canberra
Looking from the National Arboretum across part of Canberra, Australia's capital city, on the far side of the lake running through the centre of the city. The main urban area is behind the hill to the left of this image, but this shows Parliament House at the far right.
I'll now be away for some days, wishing everyone all the best until my return.
Melbourne panorama
Just back from my travels, the main purpose being a visit to Melbourne. This is a stitched panorama from one of the bridges across the Yarra River. More distant to the left is the city centre, the buildings on the right are all new. View large.
Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a good weekend to follow.
Another Melbourne panorama
Taken on the same walk as my previous panorama, this one shows more of the new buildings on the south bank of the Yarra River. On the right is the "Polly Woodside", now restored but a rusting hulk when I lived in Melbourne long ago. Also new is the long low building behind, part of the Melbourne Convention Centre. View large.
Happy Fence Friday and have a good weekend, eveyone.
Across the Yarra
The Yarra River flows through Melbourne. It is often known, maybe a little unkindly, as the only river in Australia to flow upside-down, with the mud on top. :-) Looking from the south bank toward the city area.
Docklands and benches
The Yarra River in Melbourne was once the main ship docking area, with wharves and low warehouses (see previous image). The shipping now has been moved to the far distance in the main image and the old dock area has been redeveloped as "Docklands" with apartments and offices. See notes for details of the benches.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.
Spencer Street
Spencer Street is one of the main railway stations in Melbourne. It was many years since I had visited and I was surprised that not only has it been totally rebuilt, but it now is privatised and called Southern Cross station.
While you await the train (or whatever else), Happy Bench Monday, everyone.
