Wattle World Photography Day bring?

Wattle World Photography Day bring?
The wattle trees are flowering, signalling that the end of winter is near. As might be expected, the bees are active, but it wasn't until I viewed this on the screen that I also saw the little caterpillar (note). With all this life around, this seems well suited to World Photography Day for 2025.

Peter Castell, Bergfex, Eric Desjours, Gabi Lombardo and 34 other people have particularly liked this photo

S fine picture for the day, George. Interesting that the caterpillar seems to have a similar
colouring to the bees. All the best, mate.

Beautiful photo of the flowers. The honey-bees weren't hard to find, but thanks for showing where the caterpillar was.

I've never heard of a Wattle tree before. Great image of the leaves and flower, and what a nice unexpected surprise for your caterpillar friend to show up. I think that is one thing about photography that sometimes get missed, that it gives us an opportunity to really examine something closely.

Is this about as close as your camera will get? Seems very close to me.

I find that my non-zoom lens on my SLR cameras don't get all too close to things.

Australia has many different species of wattle trees. One of them, the "Golden wattle" is our national flower. This was taken on a half frame DSLR with a Sigma 17-70 lens, which also does macro and can go a little closer than this. I find it a very good lens. It is also available for Nikon cameras, so might be worth considering if you want closer images. .

"Golden wattle" sounds great.

I think my digital Nikon may need replacing, so no new lenses for me yet. But I hadn't ever thought about a lens by someone else to go on it. I'll keep an eye on a Sigma.

I think it's the tree we call mimosa in France. It raises its leaves in the day and lowers them at night, and starts to bloom during winter.
