Comet Leonard

Comet Leonard
After nights of rain and cloud, finally we had a look at Comet Leonard. I must admit it was a little disappointing, as even with binoculars it proved hard to find - it certainly was not a naked eye comet. As a bonus though, there are a couple of satellites to the left of the image if you view large.

ColRam, trester88, Christel Ehretsmann, Nouchetdu38 and 26 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great George, I had hoped you would be able to take a picture of Leonard. After the passage of the Sun we had bad weather too and my exposures of december 9 stayed the only ones I got. I agree, its not the comet we hoped for. After Neowise last year a bit of a disapointment, but....

Your picture is a good one and it nicely shows Leonard, well done

I don't think this is disappointing, George. I'd be more than happy to capture a comet - any comet.

vriendelijke groeten, Frans.

An amazing shot. I have not looked at the sky at night for a very long time let alone tried to take photos. Looking at your photo at 2048 pixels shows an awesome view. My ignorance shows when I say that I was surprised that your exposure of 13 seconds did not result in "smears" of the stars..

Thank you, micritter. The reason there are no star trails is because the Pentax K1 has an "astrotracer" function. The camera uses an inbuilt GPS to determine its location and bearing, then the in-body stabilisation moves the sensor to adjust for the earth's rotation.
