Back from my recent Laos series to Australia, where abandoned shopping trolleys are, unfortunately, a common sight. HFF and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.

Sadly a worldwide problem George, I suspect we have more in the local river than at the supermarket

With a plastic bottle in it too. How many people really want to live in a litter strewn world ? Sometimes it feels like quite a lot.

Plenty of abandoned carts in San Francisco, though far more filled with the belongings of some poor homeless person.
This one looks like it only recently strayed from the flock since it appears quite pristine.
Is this your early HFF entry?

Thank you, Sarah. I suspect this had not escaped for long and that it would have been retrieved fairly soon. Yes, it is indeed my early HFF. I posted this at 2330 on Thursday night (our time zone) before heading to bed. :-)

Lots of shopping carts at stores around here have warnings that the wheels will seize up if they're taken outside the parking lot. The loss must be significant to bother installing such a feature! I don't know if they're keying distance off a radio signal, or what.

A sad sight George. Our supermarkets lost so many trollies they started to use coin operated ones. Well captured. HFF and have a good weekend

Nope, not mine, also the bottle! ;-D

Seems to be a worldwide problem, here its a bit better since they are locked and you have to use an Euro or a chip to use them: mobil.express.de/image/33189284/2x1/940/470/8e78fcbac87317a329d406472b706751/IB/marke-einkaufswagen.jpg

Many thanks, everyone, for your kind comments and 'likes' on this image. I'm glad to advise that the abandoned trolley was not too far from the supermarket, though I must shake my head that people do this. In the shopping area I usually visit there is also a shop from a German chain run by people named Al and Di - they have coin-release trolleys that I never see abandoned. I hope all of you are having a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Common in the states, too. They throw them in the rivers, the homeless people take them and use them, people use them to take their groceries home and then leave them on the sidewalk. The coin-release trolleys are common in the UK but not in the US.
