The bridge

The bridge
Historic lifting bridge over the Murray River, scheduled for replacement as it was not built for modern traffic volumes or large trucks. The Murray is part of Australia's major river system and separates NSW and VIctoria, which leads to a thought for a musical link. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.

I know this bridge only too well! We drive to Canberra to see family 2-3 times per year...through Piangil...quickest route from Adelaide. It is a fabulous bridge!

We have family in SA and do the (reverse) run every 12 or 18 months. Must keep in touch and maybe catch up in Tooleybuc or Hay while passing some time. :-)

Maybe it will be retained for pedestrians as is the comparable bridge at Bourke.

A superb structure. The river levels look low, but I can see the marks on the pillars. I hope that the bridge is maintained for the use of pedestrians in the future.

Many thanks indeed, everyone. I agree with you that it deserves to be preserved, but it seems the priority is to replace it with a high level (non lifting) bridge requiring much less maintenance but suitable for large B-double trucks. It seems things are not happening fast, but the direction has been set by the relevant government authorities.
