Better than coats

Better than coats
A bull NZ Fur Seal. These and other fur seals around Australia and New Zealand were almost exterminated in the 19th century for their furs - to make coats. Thankfully their numbers now are recovering (to the dismay of some professional fishing people).

Explored.

A marvellous shot, George. A pity there are no shags in view but this definitely has my seal of approval. Sorry!

They are becoming a total pest on the Coorong.... Breeding in plague proportions and unbalancing the ecosystems .... Exterminating fish sticks for native birds ...

Kind of like the way beaver in North America, nearly hunted to extinction for their fur in the 19th century, have made a comeback to the point they're a nuisance in many places! A couple of weeks back, the city of Sparks, Nevada (part of the Reno metropolitan area) was going to (lethally) trap beaver at a city park, where they're cutting down all the trees, but a public outcry put a stop to those plans. So I guess the park will have no trees--

A beautifully composed shot. He looks as if he is appreciating the sunshine. Some of these comments make me smile wryly. The species doing most damage to ecosystems is guess who,?
And we are the species who have some inkling of what our actions may lead to.
