Avro Anson Mk.1

Avro Anson Mk.1
This Avro Anson was one of many operated in Australia during WW2 as training aircraft. Somehow it has survived the years, was restored, and now is probably the only flying Anson Mk.1 in the world (of about 6,700 built). Seen in New Zealand at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre near Blenheim. Best viewed large.

Lovely looking aircraft.
This is ZK-RRA. Formerly MH120 of the Royal Air Force 206 Squadron, decorated in the markings of K6183, in memory of the first aircraft to be shot down in a dogfight in WW2.
K6183 was attacked near the Freisian Islands on 5Sep 1939 by a floatplane fitted Heinkel He115, which then proceeded to set down and rescue the Pilot Officer, the only survivor from the crew of 4, who then became a POW.

There is an Anson stuffed and mounted at Tamworth airport, NSW, because it was East West Airlines first plane. Good to see one which flies.
