Desolation

Desolation
Through the (rather dirty) window of our city hotel in Christchurch. All these buildings have been derelict since the earthquake and are surrounded by exclusion fencing, cleared sites, and more shipping containers. Image by my lovely wife.

What a series. We knew of the Christchurch earthquake but it's quite a reminder of the devastation and your pictures I've not seen before.

Thanks, Ron. I think the problem is that the media attention moves along but rarely looks back. We knew of the buildings destroyed at the time, but did not realise so many were damaged beyond further use and required demolition.
