these carvings on the canopy of sir william gerbrygge's tomb do as much as his probable date of death in the 1340s to point to a c14 date for the tomb. pevsner gives it as a hare and bird, but if so it's a remarkably violent rodent, and looks more like a lion and perhaps dragon fighting.
