view through the north arcade to the south east. the wierd electrical apparatus is the latest vicar's folly. he has put the pulpit into the far corner of the chancel and fitted up television screens and this overhead projector with a big screen so that none of the vast crowds that attend services miss any word or gesture of his sermons.
and I thought barking was down the road! I hope he didn't use parish funds for this megalomania, the church fabric could do with some work, the priest's door is covered with hardboard and several windows boarded up.
late c12 lead font, with apostles standing under an arcade. only 3 basic figures are used, and the font looks to have been made in one long piece plus the base. getting the angles right when drawing out the side piece must have caused quite a bit of cursing; 6 sided fonts are pretty rare in any medium. the design of the figures has much in common with the rood at barking in essex, which may have been made here in dorset
the vestry sits to the east of the north chapel, and seems to be a late c18 classical design, maybe by mason, and maybe reusing an old studded door of the c15
