one of the most ornate of these fonts, often the designs on the bowl have had to be cut back or are hidden by the corner shafts. lions, snakes and humans vie with ornate foliage in decorating the bowls, and angels or men form the corners.

this is half of an altar stone, marked with three of the original five crosses, and has this norman chip carved design on two faces. it is much smaller than later mensae, but bigger than extant saxon super altars. from the disposition of the crosses, the original complete width can be extrapolated to have been about 900 mms., or 3 foot
