interior of brooks' church of 1867-8, divided up in an ugly way by the brazilian cult who now own the church. the uckg have been accused of various financial improprieties, but seem mostly to be guilty of preaching prosperity theology, claiming that if their members give everything to the church, god will make them rich and successful. seems to work for the church, nice tennis courts hidden behind the chancel now, and plenty of the men in charge have flash cars and private jets. not that battening on the hopes of the hopeless is anything new for religious organizations of any sort, but these pentacostalists are also pretty illiberal about other faiths too, and do more than just dabble in politics and the media. a dodgy bunch, but then so is the vatican. no sign of the other fittings mentioned in pevsner.
