The chubby bronze duke by westmacott dates from 1833 and is 13 foot high,standing on a granite column above steps to the mall. He died in 1827, and a day's pay from everyone in the army provided the 30 grand needed to pay for his monument.

Before someone else jumps in I'll say he's the Duke of York atop his column by Carlton House Terrace. Great detail. You must have had a good telephoto? Unless of course you managed to get up there. I wish they'd open up the viewing platform. I often look longingly at the little door in the base of the column.

Taken with my canon sx50 ,nowhere near full stretch; handy for details on vaulting and low flying peers. Point to Jen; now any chance you could please clear your deadwood from the group ? I keep tripping over guessed clues...
