king's college chapel , aberdeen, scotland
founder bishop elphinstone's tomb, part of a replacement of 1519, originally designed to be far more florid. this is all that remains after its destruction in religious conflict. in 1926 henry wilson designed the tomb that now stands outside the west front, taking inspiration from the tomb of pope sixtus IV by antonio pollaiuolo, as this was believed to have influenced the tomb of 1519, which had an effigy of the founder on top, and this top slab held up from the base by bronze virtues. the remaining slabs were sandwiched together with added lettering by dr kelly in around 1928
