this view shows a detail of just inside the broken doorway at the top of steps in the porch tower. on the corner is a recess for purbeck marble shafting, leading up to a broken off capital, and the start of what must be a vaulting rib, showing that some of the first floor areas were rib vaulted. the gloriette was built in 1201-4.
