flanking the chapel here are the first four houses in this street, built in 1805-9 by the planner of much of canonbury, henry ledoux, before he went bankrupt.
the wooden valances on many windows hereabouts are one of the few architectural details which I have never seen mentioned or named in any book on the subject. they appear on london houses in the regency and early victorian period, and are generally timber.
