bloomsbury baptist church, london

built on shaftesbury avenue in 1845-8 by john gibson, sort of romanesque but with the fun taken out. the bags of rubbish, notice boards, ramp metalwork and 60s front doors don't help, but do prepare one for the bleak interior. I can really only think of one or two buildings where additions of the c20 have been of positive aesthetic benefit, a sad indictment indeed.
