v+a c13 english mother and child

1200-20 this figure came from langham church in essex and represents an intermediate style between norman and early english. as most wooden sculpture was burnt by law during one or other of england's iconoclastic periods this small mother and child is quite rare. it's about one and a half foot tall, and probably came from an altar.
