As I was lamenting the absence of birds on my cloudy World Photography Day, this kestrel flew directly overhead and posed in a nearby tree.

Heide, Fred Fouarge, homaris, Ronald Losure and 6 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nicely caught, Steve. Ain't it wonderful how something comes just when you need it. I love the composition of this: the white space and the blurred leaves on the left. I hope your day has been a good one and that the coming weekend brings you joy.

It is good when a surprise bird appears. We love our Kestrels but yours are even more striking.

A friend in a time of need! And you even know the name of the bird (I'm terrible at that). I think the fact that it was cloudy makes this photo better as the bird stands out great here even though it is amongst the leaves. It seems to be looking at you asking 'have you finished photographing yet?' *smile*

I would never think to try and get a bird photo. Maybe because I don't own a long enough lens, but probablly because I don't have the patience. I'm glad you kept looking and were rewarded so we could share in your love of birds.

Is this near your house or did you venture out to find your friend?

Happy (belated) World Photography Day 2022!
