Overtoun Pond (aka 'The Lily Pond')- IRChrome
Overtoun Estate, Dumbarton
Overtoun Pond, also known as the Lily Pond, played a significant role in one of the earliest hydro-electric schemes for domestic use. Around 1892, John Campbell White, the occupant of Overtoun House, had a turbine house built to generate electricity for his home. The pond was formed by impounding the Overtoun Burn, and water from the pond was directed to power the turbine located downstream near a waterfall called the Spardie Linn.
