Creeping Americanism in a Window

Creeping Americanism in a Window

The word ‘jewelry’ is spelled as ‘jewellery’ in the UK. So, ‘jewelry’ is the US spelling and ‘jewellery’ is the UK spelling.

In Canada we've had the reverse happen. In my childhood, fir example, newspapers here used American spelling, but now they use Canadian government spelling, which is a mixture of American and British spellings. We've always used "jewellery", though, although we disagree abiut how many syllables it has.

There are so many Americanisms in UK English, now, John. Thank for your very kind comment. Happy Christmas! All the best, Joe
