Smollett Monument
This imposing monument was erected in 1774 to commemorate the life and achievements of one of the most famous people born in the locality - Tobias Smollett, the 18th century novelist, playwright and historian. Quoted from the West Dunbartonshire Council website.

Yes, the smaller one is a War Memorial, Rosa.

I did begin reading The Adventures of Roderick Random, but I didn't finish it.

I believe Tobias Smollett was the bloke who translated Cervantes’ Don Quixote into English. I did read that book, but it was a long time ago.
