Their protective equipment is well below OSHA standards! They should at least have hard hats and face masks around molten metal. I wonder how much that's poetic license for the artwork vs. just the standards of the time.

I am thinking (hoping) there's a lot of poetic license. When they pour molten metal into a mold, doesn't it spray a shower of sparks? Those guys would have been in a hurt.

What's really dangerous is any moisture in the mold--it will flash into steam and spatter droplets around. So yeah, you wear heavy-duty eye protection in the vicinity!

I see. It's odd they had the one guy with a bare arm right up there, even if they did think showing faces humanized it, which I suspect.
