This one may need some explanation. The application uses known objects (dark bar on credit card etc.) to measure the distance. One naturally has to calibrate the application first with a test image and distance measured with a ruler.

When an approximate distance is then needed, this application requires nothing else but pointing the camera towards a credit card placed on the measured distance. The measurement is surprisingly accurate.
