Lovely orange flowers, Eunice! Wonderful marigolds, and you know what? That's a wasp on that flower! I recognize its long thorax, striped abdomen, long yellow legs, and stiff, long wings. And that striped body says, "Don't get too close or I will be very happy to sting you many times! I will not lose my stinger like a bee and if I'm angry enough, I'll follow you and keep on stinging!" Happily, I personally have never met a truly aggressive wasp, and honestly, I can approach wasps as close as I want to for pictures...the only two things you need to do is to move slowly and not be afraid--if you are afraid, you give off a chemical that alerts wasps and bees and they may become agitated. It was interesting to me, Eunice, that at the height of the poppy flower explosion in my raised bed garden, there were so many bees in there that it sounded like a bee hive! And yet, I moved around easily and without fear. They couldn't care less about me--they were mad about poppy pollen!! :D And that is the same case for this beautiful wasp! :) Here's a picture of a wasp I took a while ago! www.ipernity.com/doc/290645/17708735
