View from the Liston, Corfu, Greece
View of the Liston, from one of the restaurants lining this famous promenade. The magnificent buildings along the Liston were built during the French occupation during the Napoleonic wars, and the engineer was Mathieu de Lesseps (father of Ferdinand de Lesseps who went on to build the Suez Canal). During the subsequent British occupation, cricket was introduced by the troops and this continues to be played on the Spianada that you can see beyond the umbrellas of the cafe.
