Old Oak Tree Trunk.

Old Oak Tree Trunk.
In the village of Turnworth, Dorset this ancient oak trunk now has many species growing through the middle of it. It is full of wood worm and is a haven for insects and bugs.

PiP 1) Showing a leaflet that was pinned to the trunk!
PiP 2) The George VI post box and telephone kiosk are both still in use, and sited next to what was once the village Post Office.

A fantastic find! It looks like mostly ivy growing out of the trunk. We recently had a report on something similar in our daily paper, only here it was an elder tree growing inside the trunk of an old linden tree:-)
I also love the old phone and letter box, beer and hymns- haha!

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Gudrun club
Thank you Gudrun. Yes a lot of ivy. I seem to remember something about a tree growing inside another. Maybe it was the same one! A shame the old post office was no longer there, but it's a very small village.

What a interesting set of finds Rosa, particularly the old oak trunk and to find a working red telephone box next to an old post box ~~~ Wow ~ All the best ~ Nick

I had never been to the village before Nick and I was following my daughter's directions through some very narrow roads! I was also amazed to see a working phone box :-) Great comments, thank you.

Thank you for your kind comment dear Günter. There were actually two post boxes from the same era in the village, so I guess they are both still in use. My middle brother was also a postman after he was made redundant from the printing industry, and he loved it. Kept him super fit until he was promoted to a van! ;-))

Best wishes & a good new week, Rosa.

I watched a piece on television recently about an old oak tree and the number of species of animals, insects and plants it supports.......and there were thousands over the period of a year!!

This is a fantastic capture Rosa.............the oak may be on its last legs, but it seems it'g going to have a presence there for a long time yet! It looks amazing with all that greenery growing from it............and that's just the stuff we can see! Such a pleasant looking location too.

Two nice PiPs..........I'm with Hobby Togger on the first one and I really like the second one. Both the post box and the telephone box are becoming more and more of a rarity and to get both in one photo is great!

I hope you've had a decent weekend.........and are looking forward to the week ahead :-)
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
I seem to remember seeing or reading something like that Keith. My head is like a sieve lately! I think the old oak is slowly going to dust, but hopefully very slowly :-)

My daughter wanted to go to this village because of a connection with Thomas Hardy and the church there, but I had no idea where it was! I'll show that link next week. A very old village that seems to have stood still with time!

Ha ha, yes I'm with Hobby Togger too! The post box and telephone box were to the left of the tree and there were sheep in the surrounding hills.

Hoping you have a good new week Keith. I'll be caring for my daughter's little dog Luna, and rabbits while they're on holiday :-))

Although this one seems to have transformed to an oak bonsai in the meantime, Rosa! ;-)

I suppose the ivy is holding the old trunk together, a number of the old oaks in Bradgate Park are hollow but the trees are still alive they started fencing them to stop the ground getting compacted and give them the best chance of another few hundred years. Hymns before the beer ?
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
Yes I expect so Peter. There is an oak a few miles away from me that you can sit inside of. They say it is 1000 years old. Hymns before beer might put a few off ;-))
Have a good new week.

Increíble la vida que alimenta el tronco del roble, tanto flora como fauna. Merecía tu foto. También es muy bonita la voz y la letra, digo la típica cabina telefónica y el buzón de correos.
Te deseo que tengas una agradable semana, Rosa.

An old tree of whom there are few left and who is treated with great respect! Nice capture, Rosa, with the picturesque backdrop of the St Catherine's party, the post box and the phone kiosk.
(the note at the bottom of the leaflet also makes me smile - it's no longer considered ethically correct here in France ;-)
Have a great week ahead!

You'll have to help me out Eric. Which bit is not ethically correct in France? :-)

Wishing you a good new week.

I'm referring to the asterisk in the word BEER, Rosa: "Other drinks available but don't lend themselves to a catchy title!".
In France they should have to write: "drink with moderation!" instead :-))

*A rather unusual poster!
