Moreton Church

St Nicholas Church, Moreton, Dorset ~ Due to the current regulations, we were not able to go inside the church, which is the best place to view the beautiful windows. They were hand etched by Laurence Whistler and took 30 years to complete. I was only able to get one good window picture (in PiP) because of the light and sloping ground, but they are all spectacular.

Lovely architecture hiding behind the trees, Rosa. The daffodils provide the ideal foreground interest. Pity you were not allowed to go inside, as it would be lovely to see the stained-glass windows. Is this Whistler chap related to James Abbot McNeill Whistler? Cheers, Joe

The church looks really lovely in the sunshine.........and surrounded by trees and flowers. The rear of the church is beautiful (as seen in the PiP) I love the ornate arched windows. The etched window looks fantastic..............even from the outside. It must look much better from inside and with some back-lighting.

There is one that can only be viewed from the outside and it is a controversial one that was added much later. I tried to get s picture of it this time, but the light was just not right. That's what I like about this small village, it all comes as a surprise around each corner. The first time I visited, I didn't even see the Walled Garden or T.E. Thank you for finding this shot and for your kind comments Günter. The windows are more impressive from inside the church, but this was taken just after the lockdown, so we were not allowed to enter the church. I do have some pictures from an earlier visit somewhere on Ipernity.
