St Nicholas Church ~ Studland
Norman arches

The present church is unmistakably Norman and probably was built before the end of the 11th century. It was built on the site of the Saxon building. Its squat tower gives it an austere and rather fortress-like look.

Wonderful Rosa! We were in there (and around), too, the day after Cranborne Chase and Shaftesbury. Photos will come ... well, hopefully soon. It wasn't that calm, because many women prepared the church for the flower-festival taking place at the weekend. So there was busy coming and going and the usually rather bare interior was filled with flowers and arrangements.
I like this arches very much. They show their strength holding the tower up. Really wonderful.
