Stonehenge from the car - fenced out. But amazingly still rather powerful to see.

Annaig BZH, Kalli, Love Song, Nouchetdu38 and 39 other people have particularly liked this photo

Better be fenced than invaded, with the danger of some stupid people to carve or paint their own markings !

The fence cannot detract from impact of the stone circle in the wide plain! Obviously it was outside opening hours as there are no people to be seen.

It's nice to see a shot of the stones with no people around.........something I have never managed to get.

I was going to visit this summer, but at £30+ for a ticket plus car parking, it's extortionate..!!

A great shot of the stones Laura you can get another shot out of that, full screen I loose the car and the fence posts try it. The road you were on was due to be put into a tunnel but our present government cancelled the project because of the cost. I remember going in the dim and distant past you just walked across a field and wandered amongst the stones no visitor centre !! if you want to see the Summer Equinox it will be shown live on the internet

A Very nice photo. The long-distance perspective really emphasizes the grandeur and simplicity of the stones. And, as someone said above, it's unusual to see it without a crowd of visitors. Of course, as a visitor myself, it would be hypocritical to complain about crowds, but when they are not seen, as here, the impact of the stones is so much stronger..

Again, the perspective is amazing, and even though it's not a typical tilt-shift shot, it creates a wonderful miniature effect, Laura.

It is really impressive when it appears in some modesty on the fields approaching by car - well catured!

Yes, I was surprised by how powerful it still felt even though we were distanced from it in multiple ways.

Thanks. It was the traffic jam that allowed me to do this well enough to really see the stones.

Stonehenge and shamanism undeniably belong in the same category, as both are deeply rooted in ancient ritual, spiritual practice, and the quest to connect with the supernatural. Archaeological evidence from burials near Stonehenge reveals individuals who embodied both shamanic and ritualistic roles, suggesting that the site was a center for spiritual leaders and ceremonial activity. The monument’s design and alignment further reinforce its purpose as a place for transformative, possibly shamanic, experiences. While ancient identities were complex, the intertwining of Stonehenge and shamanism is clear: both represent humanity’s enduring desire to bridge the physical and spiritual worlds.

Seems like that desire continues today. I was lucky enough in a prior visit (2015) to go to another stone circle, Castlerigg. It was wonderful to feel the energy of being there

Auf dem Weg nach Pemproke Port haben wir hier gehalten und uns diese mächtigen Steine angesehen, Laura. Wir glauben, es hat sich gelohnt.

Taking a photograph through the window of a moving car doesn't often create a strong and memorable image, but this is extraordinarily engaging.

Thank you! I agree that car window photographs aren't often that good. But that said, I do have a few that I think work well including this one, so I'm glad you agree.
