orange leaves - blur

orange leaves - blur
polaroid sx-70 camera.
low light, thus the blur.

i don't mind blur photos - but there needs to be a reason for the blur, does it add something to the photo? does it change the feeling of the photo? would it be a stronger or weaker photo if it was in sharp focus?

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT ON YOUR THOUGHTS AROUND THIS IMAGE'S BLUR!
----------------------------------
personally, i thought the blur worked well here. i don't think it would have worked if part of the photo had been in focus because the composition doesn't have a strong focal point, it is more flowing in compositional style. it feels less like a photo of something in particular and more like a feeling, more of an abstraction. i felt it was enough of a success to post here, but not sure if it is as good as my better photos.

Superb work! To me the blur gives it an artistic touch! Stay well!

...without sharpness it would not be so interesting, Laura...

No sharpness is a good choice. Wish you a fine weekend ! Thank you for the visit and the group suggestion.

I do like soft focus for some things. Next you will see a different version of basically the same thing.

I appreciate your argument, Laura, and can only be interested in it. The sharp version does not indeed have a focus, a main subject. So I, who shun blur like the plague in my photos (!) must agree with your demonstration - on this composition in particular, very nicely coloured.

I find it interesting that while I love photos that are full of sharpness (like yours!) that I rarely take a photo like that. I can appreciate different kind of art than mine - glad you can see something in this one to enjoy.

I think that blur can work if it is done purposefully. As with many "not perfect" techniques.

I am not really sure which version I prefer, though I do believe that the border detracts from both versions of the image (particularly the blue border in the sharper version), taking the eye away from the picture itself. On reflection, I'd be happier with the blur; the sharp version is just a flower whilst this one offers more possibilities for the viewer.

"not really sure which version I prefer" - exactly my problem! thus my question.

the borders are less distracting in person - the scanning of these metalic borders is not good. so i suppose i should remove them for posting.

i like that you have the sense of more possibilities for the viewer with the blur - i like to keep my art photos open ended like that.

thanks for taking the time to consider this! i think i'm inclined to agree with you.

I definitely prefer this blurry photo. In my (uneducated) eye, it is a lovely abstract composition of shapes and colors. I cannot say the same for the next (sharp) version.
