Kardinal Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini, von 1492 bis 1502 Bischof von Siena, hat in einigen Räumen des Pfarrhauses, neben der linken Seite des Doms, ein Raum entworfen um die kostbaren Bibliotheksbestände seines Onkels, des Humanisten und späteren Papstes Enea Silvio Piccolomini (Pius II.), verstorben 1464, zu erhalten. Also ein Raum des Pfarrhauses wurde zu die Piccolomini-Bibliothek, nicht schlecht.
