We surprised this and another deer (which made hasty retreats) while walking along a trail in the Illinois Beach State Park (refered to by oldtimers as The Dunes), Zion, Illinois. Scanned 35mm negative. (9H010)

Zoo Atlanta, Georgia. This female named Kudzu is the first offspring of Willie B., the zoo's famous silverback (for his story and photos of him see www.ipernity.com/doc/picture_taker/32055569/in/album/346469) and www.ipernity.com/doc/picture_taker/32055521/in/album/346469 . Zoo Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia. Named after Atlanta Mayor, William Berry Hartsfield, Willie B died of pneumonia at the age of 41 on February 2, 2000, seven months after this photo was taken. He was born in Cameroon and had lived at the zoo for 39 years. He was kept in a cage for 27 years until the zoo's Ford African Rain Forest Exhibit opened in 1988. Three female gorillas were placed with him. Ultimately, he fathered five offspring (for a photo of his first offspring, a female named Kudzu, see www.ipernity.com/doc/picture_taker/32055573/in/album/346469) . Scanned 35mm negative. (8B011)
