Otis, my dog
Folder: About Me
Midway through the 7th decade of my life, I acquired Otis, my first dog, literally by accident. The last of my many beloved cats had died a few months earlier. I decided no more pets for me. Then one day a pack of dogs ran in front of my car. Otis, the last one, didn't make it before I could stop. I hit him and broke his leg. People nearby said he was a stray that they had been feeding. Well, throw the stick

Otis is waiting for me to throw a stick. He used to be afraid of water until the part of him that is 25% lab finally overcame that fear. Now, going for a walk down to the creeks and fetching sticks thrown into the creek are high among his favorite things to do. Fisher Creek, Etowah County, Alabama

Otis saw a floating stick that must have looked like something else, perhaps a snake, but he was very leary of it and never touched it. Usually he grabs all the sticks he sees and drags them out. At Fisher Creek in my woods, Etowah County, ALabama (DSC08678)

I was driving and basically shooting blind out the window with one hand to photograph the peninsula submerged in unusually high water. I wasn't sure I had anything worthwhile. I was very surprised when I downloaded the picture to see not only the submerged peninsula, but also my dog, Otis, in the mirror with his head out the back window. (Don't worry, he has a seat belt harness and can't jump out.) Red Top Mountain State Park, Georgia. (DSC05723)
