Photographs from my father, John Sutters' collection, mainly taken by him, of Southern Railway-built locos. These were taken in the period between nationalisation and the end of steam in revenue service. There are separate albums of pre-nationalisation photos and of preservation lines.

The numberplate is not very distinct, but when I saw that 34110 was the last in the class, I was fairly happy with the identification as the '1's are fairly clear. The '0' could have been an '8' but that didn't exist!
1.7.2013 - We now have a date and location from Dad's log book. Friday 1st March 1963 near Yeovil Junction, on the 11am Brighton to Plymouth.

Given Southern's standardised concrete platforms and fencing, this could be a number of places, but the water tower might give a clue to those who know the area.
11.1.2013 - it did see below. Thanks d.r99

There is a print of this already uploaded, but this one has not had most of the motor coach cropped. We also see the buffer stops. Does this mean the we are at Lyme Regis - the terminus?

This is another uncropped negative. I am fairly sure, from a quick look at Google Images, that this is Axminster Station, but from Dad's cropped print I couldn't work it out.
So the mystery of the location in www.flickr.com/photos/phil-seaford/5574646592/ is solved!
One can see why Dad didn't bother to print this one! I bet he got covered with steam in a second or two after this was taken. I am not sure how Dad got so close to the tracks. The notice on the right side might indicate that there was a crossing of some sort there.

As with most of this group of scans I don't have any information about the location - if you can identify it please do - it looks fairly recognisable to those familiar with it. The loco number is just legible in close-up.
From a group of loose prints, many of which seem to be by Michael Brown of Harrogate. This one doesn't have a named photographer.
The number is hard to read - 412 can be worked out from the class, the 9 is just decipherable and 7, which could have also been 3 or 2, is the only one of the three to have been shedded down south at Tonbridge and Three Bridges.
There is no information on the back except 'Clapham Junction'.
