These benches and the associated waste bin are from a range of commemorative benches on offer from David Ogilvie & Co. of Kilmarnock. Their purchase and installation, on the Memorial Green, have been funded by Newhaven Town Council to commemorate the centenary of World War 1 and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2.
I was going to say that a commemorative waste bin must be an unusual item, but as it is in Ogilvie's catalogue, I assume there must be others around the country now.

I can't imagine what this was doing there. Perhaps there had been some sort of motivational event down there. I am not sure what it means, but there are a couple of candidates for The World of Bins group. The rest of you can work out what the words mean!
