The Isle of Wight is in a direct line of sight from Seaford. The only promontory before the island, after Castle Hill, Newhaven, is Selsey Bill, which is not high enough to be seen from sea-level. So the faint smudge on the horizon must be the Isle of Wight - a distance of about 55 miles.

Yet another long distance shot, but I like it as it shows the booms deployed and fishing under way. There are several others in the batch I took which show a much denser cloud of gulls than this.

|
Winchelsea Beach is a largely shingle beach with patches of sand, mud and quick-sand. It is backed by a sea wall that protects the Pett Level marshes and pastures. The hills to the west that can be seen in the distance contain the communities of Fairlight and Hastings.
