Spotted by my wife from the dining room window at breakfast-time, this was an unusual visitor. We are less than half a mile from open countryside, so I suppose that it shouldn't be a surprise to get the occasional game-bird, in the garden, but we haven't seen any before, apart from an endless stream of Wood Pigeons.

The gulls in this photo were flying into the wind and remaining almost stationary. They didn't come down to pick up the food twhile the child was throwing it, as it was still very close to them. They waited until they both walked away.
Two of the first batch of images taken on my new Sony DSC H400 compact. It has a 63X zoom. It was part of a third prize in a Brighton & Hove Argus photo competition, sponsored by Jessops. Not having to cart a DSLR and lenses everywhere will reduce the impact on my arthritic hand joints.
Denton Island is about a half a mile up the tidal estuary of the Sussex Ouse.
